One question that makes all the difference

November 29th, 2006

Someone asked me a question the other day.
They wanted to know why this blog’s called the “Does it Work?” Diary.
It seems that they were expecting something about achieving dreams, being yourself to the max, reaching for the stars etc.The normal kinds of things people associate with personal development.
Nothing wrong with any of those ideas (and I often use them myself).
But the plain old vanilla-flavoured “Does it Work?” is much more powerful…
Here’s why
If you notice that there’s something you keep doing, and are not sure about, ask yourself, “Does it work?” and see how that affects your next move.
Think of something about which you’re curious, but sceptical, and ask yourself, “Does it work?.” Be aware of how that keeps the door open to new ideas, without taking away the critical faculties and sense of perspective that can keep you afloat in the modern world.
And finally, ask of actions that maybe you’re taking as part of a group, a family, an organisation, a nation, a continent, a world…”Does it work?”
