Are You On The Right Track?

November 27th, 2007 1 comment

If you are reading this blog, it can be assumed that you are interested in personal development in some way…either for yourself as a pursuit, or perhaps as an exploration of the concepts. Follow Your Path is always about defining and creating the life of your dreams, which is, of course, a unique journey for each of us. Sadly, most people do not even embark on such a journey! But that surely does not describe you.
While we are all aware of the concept of ‘thoughts create reality’, or ‘law of attraction’ in all the shapes and forms this takes these days, we do not often hear about how we can tell if we are doing – or thinking – the ‘right’ things.
Of course, there is no right and wrong in this Universe, however there are sure signs along the way which can guide you. By these signs you can correct wayward thought patterns and adjust course as you see fit. Assuming you have already defined your chosen path, these signs can act as guideposts to keep you on it. The path may curve or get jagged, but in this way you can always be sure you are following YOUR path, and creating it anew as needed, versus allowing it to be a reactionary path as most do.

Life Power Tip #424

November 22nd, 2007 2 comments

Do something for someone else.

Are you feeling a bit flat, down or low on energy? Do something for someone else. Surprise someone with a pleasant surprise. It need not cost money. It may be a bunch of flowers from your garden for a neighbor. It could be writing a simple letter or postcard to someone you’ve not been in touch with for a while. Be courteous when driving, or stop and give a pedestrian right of way. Listen rather than talk when meeting with a friend.

Innovative and Creative People

November 20th, 2007 No comments

Have you ever looked at super creative or innovative people, and felt they are special beings blessed with gifts? Have you felt that you are not as fortunate? I used to feel this way. I have since learned that creativity is more about psychology than intellect, and there are no secrets to being creative. Actually, there is no such thing as “being more creative”, you are already a creative being.
I’m sure we can all relate to moments when we felt stuck trying to tap into our own creativity. Did you know that this block is merely your mind at work? Your mind is creating all sorts of assumptions, self-imposed constraints and self-limiting inhibitions. I have found that we can remove these assumptions just by being in the moment; start doing, and stop thinking.
Follow the ‘Source’ link, to read the seven habits found in highly innovative and creative people that Tina Su has organized and summarized from Scott Berkun’s “The Myths Of Innovation“.

Overcoming The Law Of Distraction

November 18th, 2007 No comments

…if we are to follow our dreams and manifest them into the physical world, there’s only one expert we can possibly listen to – and that’s our own inner guidance. And it’s very easy to follow – something feels good, (exciting, exhilarating, attractive, sexy, appealing, joyful, fun …. all mean “good”), or it feels bad, (wrong, irrelevant, guilty, embarrassing, sombre, hard work, joyless, unkind, cheaty …).
A key to making the Law Of Attraction work in your life is to totally, one hundred percent, believe in yourself and what you are doing.
You’ll discover that your nature is good. Your instinct is to give and create to improve the world in ways large or small. Your ability to “sell” will simply become your natural ability to “tell with passion” because you’ll have love for what you’re doing.
You’ll also find opportunities opening up, because when you do what you love, it’s infectious, and people will love what you’re doing – and you for doing it!

The zone of getting things done

November 17th, 2007 No comments

MSNBC reports on how Americans are increasingly imposing 70+ hour work weeks on themselves to stay competitive at the workplace. This is happening cross-industry which matches my anecdotal experience. I have friends in finance, law and technology for whom working ridiculous hours is considered part of the accepted culture.
This is dumb. There’s no way anyone in an information processing job can be productive for that many hours a week for any significant stretch of time. Places that foster this type of behavior are actively encouraging burnout, especially from their most junior employees. After all, it’s those with the least outside experience who will be most eagerly try to sync up with such a company culture.
Yes, there will always be crunch time. And when you find yourself in that zone of getting things done, it’s worth riding the wave regardless of the hour. But it’s not sustainable for weeks at a time. And in the long run, companies that don’t make time-off a guilt-free part of the culture will cripple themselves.

Life Power Tip #423

November 17th, 2007 No comments

Find out what would truly make you happy.

We really do not know for sure what would make us happy. Fulfilling your life’s purpose would definitely make you happy and leave you feeling satisfied. I love this quote by Patanjali, “When you are inspired by some great purpose, some extraordinary project, all your thoughts break their bonds; your mind transcends limitations, your consciousness expands in every direction, and you find yourself in a new ,great and wonderful world. Dormant forces, faculties and talents become alive and you discover yourself to be a greater person by far than you ever dreamed yourself to be.”

Life Power Tip #422

Experience “real” life.

Are you waiting for “life” to begin? You just need to get some of those hurdles out of the way and need a few things to happen first. The children need to leave home, retirement at work first and then enjoy the things you love, certain amounts of dollars need to be saved, the time needs to be just right, etc. Consider that all those roadblocks ARE your life. When will you choose to experience them fully, along with all the other passing moments?
