You need to ask for what you want.

You cannot expect those around you to be mind readers. You need to find ways to communicate what you want. Be direct, up front and specific when making requests from others. They then have three options – Yes, No, or a Counter Offer to your request. Everything is negotiable, and very little is set in concrete, until the last conversation is had, and agreement is reached. Even then, there is opportunity for review, a little way down the track.

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty, slim and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, “Wow! What a Ride!”…Unknown

1. We admitted we were powerless over our addiction/compulsion – that our lives had become unmanageable.
2. We came to believe that, like all human beings, our power was limited and we needed to learn to let go and learn from others.
3. We made a decision to let go of control, assume a spirit of goodwill, seek the wisdom of responsible others, and discover our true “voice within”.
4. We made a searching and fearless inventory of our strengths and weaknesses.
5. We admitted to our journal, ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.
6. Were entirely ready to listen to wise counsel and seek that still small voice within to guide us to change our behaviors which have been harmful to ourselves and others.
7. Humbly began the process of deep change so we could overcome our weakness.
8. Made a list of all persons we have harmed, became willing to make amends to them all, and to forgive those against whom we have held grudges.
9. We made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so whould injure them or others.
10. Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong, promptly admitted it.
11. Through meditation and journaling we continually seek to clarify and improve our own judgment and to consider the best direction and purpose our lives can take.
12. Having developed deeper wisdom and an appreciation of the spiritual as a result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to other addicts and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

Image via WikipediaWell, my sister has gone back to Sydney and Greg comes home from Melbourne next Tuesday night.

I had a wonderful time with her here, and I’m looking forward to the next visit. Hopefully it will not be a five year gap again!

Here are a few of the things we did while she was here:
Spent a day around the lakes watching bird life, including black swans.
Had a day along the coast line taking our own picnic lunch.
Explored the markets on a lazy Saturday.
Did a little sight seeing locally on a gloriously sunny day.
A day of bike riding around Rottnest Island after a river cruise and boat trip to the island.
We also did lots of shopping and talking, as girls do! The weather was fantastic the whole 8 days she was here, and it’s winter in Perth.

I’m looking forward to Greg being home again shortly.
