Gravity Discovery Centre
The Gravity Discovery Centre is about humanity and the universe. We are custodians of life on a tiny fragile planet in a vast and mysterious universe. The GDC focuses on our yearning to understand ourselves and our place in the universe.
Their goal is to unleash the joy of finding things out. All the exhibits (and education modules for schools) are designed to be fun. The joyful exhilaration of students and families repeating Galileo’s famous experiments from the Leaning Tower of Gingin has to be seen (and heard!) to be believed!
Why is the universe so perfectly tuned for life? Are we alone in the universe? Where are the aliens? We do not try to answer the big questions but rather show people how our quest for knowledge focuses on the attempt to discover the ultimate truths about the universe. Reading the laws, trying to know the mind of the lawmaker.
• Innovation and Creativity: The Innovation Gallery. The worldwide quest to understand Einstein’s Universe through the detection of gravitational waves has unleashed a golden age of creativity and innovation. Physicists have created astonishing ultrasensitive instruments which for the first time are capable of exploring the brand new spectrum of Gravitational Waves. The new detectors promise humanity a new sense… a sense akin to hearing… with which humanity will be able to listen to the dark side of the universe. The Gravity Discovery Centre lets you participate in this voyage of discovery and explore some of the new technology.
• Extraordinary plants and the wonders of evolution: The Biodiversity Gallery. We are located within one of the 12 richest biodiversity hotspots on the planet and we have a signed agreement with the indigenous custodians to ensure that it is preserved for future generations. We focus our stunning biodiversity gallery and associated education modules on the weird and extraordinary lifeforms that have evolved complex specialisations.
• Science and Spirituality: The Cosmology Gallery focusses on the unity of human yearning to understand our place in the universe. This yearning is shared by all cultures and all traditions. Enlightenment may be obtained by many paths including the scientific path. Modern science reveals extraordinary truths, awesome knowledge and unfathomable mystery. The quest brings spiritual uplift from the sense of humility when we recognise the vastness and the beauty of the cosmos and our own links to the stars.
