How Long Is A Very Long Time?

February 26th, 2009 1 comment

5x5 black and white checker.[Image via Wikipedia]

dipclip.com is about having a little bit of fun out there in internet lalaland.

The idea is simple. One million sites listed, each getting one million banner ad impressions. This equates to one trillion, hence the Mission: One Trillion Served. Here is the plan:

February 14, 2009 to February 14, 2010 (or as long as it takes – which they realize may be a very long time) they want to serve One Trillion 50 x50 banner ads on dipclip.com. There is a checkerboard (10 x 10) with 100 banners shown at any given time on www.dipclip.com.

Entering is simple. Fill out the form on ‘Get Your Spot’ and submit it. They will verify all information. Once your information checks out, they enter your banner into the rotation (1,000,000 impressions) and will track your clicks.

At the end of the run, the site with the most clicks wins. What does this mean for you? Either you have a lot of time on your hands or you know a lot of people that will spend the day looking for your banner. A winner will be announced at the end of the trillion served. Presently, this is just for fun. If it becomes something more than that, it will be disclosed to all participants.

What are you waiting for? Submit your blog, website, etsy, myspace, facebook, youtube page, bebo, twitter….what ever you want.

Have fun!
Thea

P.S. Remember this is absolutely free, there is no catch, besides my own curiosity to see what events happen over the course of the year. Let’s call it a social experiment.

See Something That Had Been Invisible

February 22nd, 2009 No comments

Robert Fludd, Utriusque cosmi maioris scilicet...[Image via Wikipedia]

I have always thought of “AHA” moments as those times when suddenly we “catch on” to a deeper reality, when we suddenly “get it” – the “it” being a deeper truth, or a clearer insight into “ultimate reality.” These experiences are sometimes caricatured by a light-bulb turning on. Suddenly we see something that had been invisible, or un-graspable before.

On a personal level, the “A-Ha” may be an answer to a problem or question that has been plaguing us; a sudden awareness of a solution or a new perspective that hits us, seemingly from nowhere, or “out of the blue”. From a deeper level, however, “A-Ha” moments, I believe, are breakthroughs in consciousness where an old, more limited, perspective gives way to an expanded awareness of what is really going on, our part in it, and then a summons to change our choices, behaviors, intentions to align better with this new awareness. Spiritual teachers speak of “waking up”, indicating that what came before was a state of “sleep-walking”, behaving and choosing without awareness.

To me, it is this summons that is the key. Unless insight produces action it is useless — or at best, self-serving — because it only serves to make us feel better.

Daddy, may I please borrow $25?

February 22nd, 2009 1 comment

Time AbundanceA man came home from work late, tired and irritated, to find his 5-year old son waiting for him at the door.

SON: ‘Daddy, may I ask you a question?’
DAD: ‘Yeah sure, what is it?’ replied the man.

SON:: ‘Daddy, how much do you make an hour?’
DAD: ‘That’s none of your business. Why do you ask such a thing?’ the man said angrily.

SON: ‘I just want to know. Please tell me, how much do you make an hour?’
DAD: ‘If you must know, I make $50 an hour.’

SON: ‘Oh,’ the little boy replied, with his head down. ‘Daddy, may I please borrow $25?’

The father was furious, ‘If the only reason you asked that is so you can borrow some money to buy a silly toy or some other nonsense, then you march yourself straight to your room and go to bed. Think about why you are being so selfish. I don’t work hard everyday for such childish frivolities.’ The little boy quietly went to his room and shut the door.

The man sat down and started to get even angrier about the little boy’s questions. How dare he ask such questions only to get some money? After about an hour or so, the man had calmed down , and started to think: Maybe there was something he really needed to buy with that $25.00 and he really didn’t ask for money very often. The man went to the door of the little boy’s room and opened the door. ‘Are you asleep, son?’ He asked. ‘No daddy, I’m awake,’ replied the boy. ‘I’ve been thinking, maybe I was too hard on you earlier’ said the man. ‘It’s been a long day and I took out my aggravation on you. Here’s the $25 you asked for.’

The little boy sat straight up, smiling. ‘Oh, thank you daddy!’ He yelled. Then, reaching under his pillow he pulled out some crumpled up bills. The man saw that the boy already had money, started to get angry again. The little boy slowly counted out his money, and then looked up at his father. ‘Why do you want more money if you already have some?’ the father grumbled. Because I didn’t have enough, but now I do,’ the little boy replied. ‘Daddy, I have $50 now. Can I buy an hour of your time? Please come home early tomorrow. I would like to have dinner with you.’ I Miss you so much Daddy….

The father was crushed. He put his arms around his little son, and he begged for his forgiveness. It’s just a short reminder to all of you working so hard in life. We should not let time slip through our fingers without having spent some time with those who really matter to us, those close to our hearts. Do remember to share that $50 worth of your time with someone you love.

The Kybalion

February 22nd, 2009 1 comment

THE KYBALION[Image via Wikipedia]

In the early days, there was a compilation of certain Basic Hermetic Doctrines, passed on from teacher to student, which was known as “THE KYBALION” the exact significance and meaning of the term having been lost for several centuries. This teaching, however, is known to many to whom it has descended, from mouth to ear, on and on throughout the centuries. Its precepts have never been written down, or printed, so far as we know. It was merely a collection of maxims, axioms, and precepts, which were non-understandable to outsiders, but which were readily understood by students, after the axioms, maxims, and precepts had been explained and exemplified by the Hermetic Initiates to their Neophytes.

These teachings really constituted the basic principles of “The Art of Hermetic Alchemy,” which, contrary to the general belief, dealt in the mastery of Mental Forces, rather than Material Elements-the Transmutation of one kind of Mental Vibrations into others, instead of the changing of one kind of metal into another. The legends of the “Philosopher’s Stone” which would turn base metal into Gold, was an allegory relating to Hermetic Philosophy, readily understood by all students of true Hermeticism.

The passage of this book, to those ready for the instruction will attract the attention of such as are prepared to receive the Teaching. And, likewise, when the pupil is ready to receive the truth, then will this little book come to him, or her. Such is The Law. The Hermetic Principle of Cause and Effect, in its aspect of The Law of Attraction, will bring lips and ear together-pupil and book in company.

Tobias Churton, scholar of obscure religious movements, states that “the Hermetic tradition was both moderate and flexible, offering a tolerant philosophical religion, a religion of the (omnipresent) mind, a purified perception of God, the cosmos, and the self, and much positive encouragement for the spiritual seeker, all of which the student could take anywhere” [Wikipedia]
